About this tool

A moiré pattern appears when two similar repeating structures are overlaid with a small offset in angle or spacing: the beat between them forms much larger bands than either grid. Here each layer is rasterised on its own and the stack is composited pixel by pixel, so the multiply, screen and normal blend modes behave exactly and the interference is a real optical product rather than a filter. Frequencies are capped and the layer count is limited to keep the composite fast — everything is computed in your browser and the PNG never leaves it.
