About this tool

The image is block-averaged down to one sample per dot, converted to luminance, then dithered either by error diffusion (Floyd–Steinberg, Atkinson, Burkes, Stucki or Jarvis–Judice–Ninke — the residual error is pushed into neighbouring pixels with the classic weights) or by an ordered Bayer 4×4 / 8×8 threshold matrix. The surviving dots are painted as circles, squares or diamonds on a rotatable lattice. Everything runs on this device, the preview canvas is the exported PNG, and the source is capped at 1800px with a 400,000 dot budget so the tab stays responsive.
